What we did for the project: We found the species that were in the Indian Valley College area. First we started with the main species like what birds and deer. Then we went on to find the animals in the pond like frogs. We had to include predictions for the plot of land with and without the change for 50, 100, 300, and 1000 years. We cut little triangles and glued them together to make trees. Then we glued them to the board and cut the pond out with blue paper. We made a presentation and then wrote a letter to a representative about our plan for this space. .
Concepts: Biology: science that seeks to understand the living world Biodiversity: the diversity of life Biotic: biological influence on organisms within an ecosystem Abiotic: physical, or nonliving, factor that shapes an ecosystem Climate: the weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period Carrying capacity: the number of living organisms that a region can support without environmental degradation Ecology: the study of the interactions between living things in the environment Ecosystem: how the communities interact with their environment Symbiosis: when two species have a close relationship with one another
Reflection: My first peak was time management. We finished our work that we needed to get done that day quickly and well. I believed that our group worked well together. My second peak/positive was that I put a lot of focus in my work so that I did a good job in what I needed to get done. My first pit was that I was easily distracted by other students and what they were doing. I got off task and it took me awhile to get my focus back on the project. My second pit was that I didn't take a very strong leadership role. I kind of just did what I was told to do. Next time I will try to stay on task and try to take more of a leadership role. I want to continue to work hard and do my best in school and in STEM class.
