Description: The point of the project was to gather enough evidence from a murder scene to get a search warrant. We matched the fingerprint on the glass slide to one of the suspects. Then we had to identify the different blood types on the murder weapon and find a match.
Concepts: Molarity Formula: The solute is defined as the substance being dissolved, while the solvent is the substance where the solute is dissolved. convert the moles of solute into grams by using the molar mass of NaCl.
Blood type: is a classification of blood based on the presence and absence of antibodies and also based on the presence or absence of inherited antigenic substances on the surface of red blood cells
Gel electrophoresis: is a laboratory method used to separate mixtures of DNA, RNA, or proteins according to molecular size. In gel electrophoresis, the molecules to be separated are pushed by an electrical field through a gel that contains small pores.
Ink chromatography: is a mixture of several dyes and therefore we can separate those colors from one another using chromatography. When ink is exposed to certain solvents the colors dissolve and can be separated out. When we expose a piece of paper with ink on it to a solvent, the ink spreads across the paper when the ink dissolves. Dilution equation: is a reduction in the pH of a chemical (gas, vapor, solution). It is the process of decreasing the concentration of a solute in solution, usually simply by mixing with more solvent. To dilute a solution means to add more solvent without the addition of more solute.
Karyotyping: the determination of a karyotype, to detect chromosomal abnormalities
Reflection: My first peak was time management. We finished our work that we needed to get done that day quickly and well. I believed that our group worked well together. My second peak/positive was that I put a lot of focus in my work so that I did a good job in what I needed to get done. My first pit was that I was easily distracted by other students and what they were doing. I got off task and it took me awhile to get my focus back on the project. My second pit was that I didn't take a very strong leadership role. I kind of just did what I was told to do. Next time I will try to stay on task and try to take more of a leadership role. I want to continue to work hard and do my best in school and in STEM class.
